Inserting Objects on Your Page

Inserting an Object

To insert an object:

  1. Click the Insert Tool .
  2. From one of the tabs, choose the type of object which you would like to insert.
  3. Select the properties of the object.
  4. Click the OK button to insert the item.

Objects that You Can Add to Your Page

  • Text

    To insert text:

    1. Click the Insert Tool.
    2. Click the Text tab.
    3. Enter text in the provided box.
    4. Select your text properties such as colour, size, position, and alignment.
    5. If you would like the text to be a link, select a page from your site, or enter the Internet address that you would like to link to.
    6. Click the OK button to insert the text

  • Images

    You can insert images on any page of your web site. Before an image can be inserted, it must be uploaded to your Image Library.

    There is no limit to the number of images you can put on your site or store in your library. However, each image cannot exceed 500K. Also, remember that the size of your entire site cannot exceed 12 mb.

    Image Library: Use your Image Library to store images for use on your web site. You can easily add and delete images from your library.

    How to add images to your Image Library:

    1. Click on the Image Library icon .
    2. Click on the Browse button, and select an image from your computer. The name of your image will appear in the box beside the browse button.
    3. Click the Upload button. The image will be uploaded to your Image Library.
    Images inside your Image Library will be automatically renamed and numbered. Click on the image name to see a thumbnail of each image in your Image Library.

    How to delete images from your Image Library:

    Click on the small trash can icon beside the image name. This will permanently delete the image from your image library. It will NOT affect any images or files on your own computer.

    Inserting Images: Images can be inserted on any page. Before inserting an image onto your page, you must upload it to your Image Library (see above).

    How to insert images on a web page:

    1. Click the Insert Tool .
    2. Click the Image tab.
    3. Click the small button beside the image you wish to insert. To view the image, click the image name.
    4. Enter text into the box provided if you would like the image to have a caption. The caption can appear above or below the image.
    5. Select a size for your image.
    6. If required, you may add a border to your image.
    7. If you would like the image to be a button or link, select the page of your site, or an external web page, that you would like to link to.

  • Display Type (Fonts)

    Use Display Type to create large headlines in a wide variety of font styles and sizes. Color can be applied to Display Type.

    To insert display type:

    1. Click the Insert Tool.
    2. Click the Display Type tab.
    3. Enter text in the provided box.
    4. Select and apply a colour.
    5. Select the font, size, and alignment of the display type.
    6. If you would like the display type to be a link, select a page from your site, or enter an Internet address, that you would like to link to.

  • Clip Art

    You can choose from a wide variety of clip art to use in your web site.

    To insert clip art:

    1. Click the Insert Tool.
    2. Click the Clip Art tab.
    3. A scrolling list will show all available clip art items. From the list, choose an item. A preview of the item will be displayed below the scrolling list.
    4. If you wish to attach a caption to the clip art, enter a caption in the caption box. The caption can appear above or below the clip art.
    5. Select the alignment for the clip art on the page.
    6. To change the size of the clip art, enter a pixel value.
    7. Select a border if you require one.
    8. If you would like the clip art to be a link, select a page from your site, or enter an Internet address that you would like to link to.

  • E-mail Forms

    Forms allow users to email you information which is formatted according to your specifications. Users enter their information into labeled fields. Each form can have a maximum of fourteen fields. You can specify the name of each field.

    To insert a form:

    1. Click the Insert Tool.
    2. Click the Form tab.
    3. For each field that you would like to use, enter a field name and check the check box.
    4. Enter the email address to which you would like the form information e-mailed.
    5. Select the page which you would like to have displayed after the form is submitted. This can be the standard default Thank You page, a Thank You page which you create, or any page on the Internet.
    6. Select a font, font size, and the alignment of the form.
    7. Click OK.

  • Web Counter

    A web counter can be placed on any page on your web site. The counter will count the number of visits to your home page only, regardless of what page it is placed on. You can have as many web counters on as many pages as you like. They will always display the same number.

    To insert a web counter:

    1. Click the Insert Tool. An Insert Item frame will be displayed.
    2. Choose the Web Counter tab at the top of the frame.
    3. Select the web counter's font, color, and alignment.
    4. Click "OK"

  • Scrolling Message

    You can enter text which will appear as a scrolling message at the bottom of a users browser window. This feature will only be available to users using Java script enabled browsers.

  • Separator

    A separator can be used to create either horizontal lines or additional blank space above and below objects.

    To insert a separator:

    1. Click the Insert Tool. An Insert Item frame will be displayed.
    2. Choose the Separator tab at the top of the frame.
    3. Select a spacing and style option

    TIP: To insert blank space between two objects, select Style: No Line.

    TIP: Use the clip art separators to insert ornamental separators between objects.

  • Custom HTML

    You can insert your own custom HTML anywhere on your page. A page can consist entirely of custom HTML or it can combine HTML with other objects such as Display Type, Forms, Titles, Web Counters, etc.

    HMTL objects can be positioned on the page just like any other object. By default, your HTML will be placed in a new table with no border and with width set to 100%. However, your HTML can also be placed:

    • in the same cell as;
    • in a new cell to the right of;
    • or in a new row below;
    a previous object.

    Do not insert custom HTML in your page unless you have at least a basic understanding of how HTML works. Since your HTML will be placed between an itsmysite.com header and footer, please do not use <HTML>, <TITLE>, <BODY>, META redirects or similar tags. Errors in your HTML code, especially relating to table tags, may affect other parts of your page and cause unexpected results. Please note that itsmysite.com can not provide subscribers with HTML technical support.

  • Links

    You can create internal links from one page of your site to another page of your site. You can also create external links to any web page on the Internet.

    To insert a link:

    1. Edit or insert an object.
    2. To create an internal link: from the internal link pop up menu, choose the page you would like to link to.
    3. To create an external link: in the space provided enter the full web site address of the page you would like to link to.
      Example: http://www.ibm.com

Editing Objects on Your Page

All objects that you insert on a page can be edited at any time.

  1. Locate an object's Edit Tool . Usually immediately to the right or immediately below an object.
  2. Click the object’s Edit Tool. You will see all of the object’s properties in the right hand frame.
  3. Edit one or more of the object’s properties
  4. Click the OK Button, and the object will be updated immediately

Moving, Copying, and Pasting Objects

To select multiple objects click on the red Cut and Copy Tool of the first object in the group you wish to select. Then click on the last object. All the objects in between will be selected and their red squares will blink.

To deselect a group of objects simply click on any flashing red square.
