Rock Creek
It was a full blow-en stampede to a small creek, but it made history. When two United States Army dispatch riders skirted an Native uprising in Washington Territory. They accidentally discovered course Gold Nuggets while crossing an unnamed creek in 1858.
Word quickly spread and the rush was on, large numbers of miners from the U.S. Started working the Creek with staggeringly good results. They called this creek "ROCK CREEK" By the next year, the Bars like Denver, Whites & Solders were over the top in producing fortunes for the Miners.
These miners were taking back our British Columbia gold to the States without paying duty. So Governor James Douglas had a trail built along the Southern border of BC. It was an amassing feet and was called the Dewdney Trail.
Unfortunately the gold rush was all but over by the time the trail reached Rock Creek. It was to late most of the miners had moved on to the Gold rushes of Stud horse and Cariboo...
Don't Dismiss this little town just up from the American Border. Both the town and the Creek are worth exploring.
