Friendly COVE on NOOTKA SOUND.
The land you are looking at in this photograph between the dock on the left and the forest on the right
is created by 4500 years of habitation.
When people first came here there was a thin strip of sand between the island and mainland.
The last Totem has now fallen down. To allow it to return to the earth is the traditional way...
Ray is the head of the last family living
year round at Friendly Cove on Nootka Sound. His People have inhabited this place for over 4500 years!
On Captain Cooks Third and last Voyage of Discovery. His ships Artist drew some of these images from Nootka
but not wanting to waste paper also did some art from the next stop,
the Sandwich Islands we know today as, HAWAII.
The Spanish government built this replacement church in the 1960's. This beautiful stained glass window tells the story of Christianity coming to the first nations people.
