Billy often stayed in the "Dominion Hotel" & so have I.
No word on his favorite room. You can still stay in this hotel today.
In the middle of Ross Bay cemetery lies the final resting place of William Barker.
Old Billy died of lip cancer in the Victoria old folks home.
He was buried in an unmarked pauper's grave. Then in 1962, Miss Lottie Bowron "born in Barkerville" helped to dedicate Billy's grave marker.

In 1862 Billy dug a whole in the ground where everyone knew there was no gold.
After all it was below the canyon. Many laughed at this silly little Englishman. He and his partners were getting tired of digging and running out of money!
Then the day came at 52 feet down they hit bedrock. No one laughed when up the shaft came large gold nuggets.
Soon after Barkerville was born.
